I haven’t posted many (or any, if I can recall correctly) of my beer reviews or thoughts to hear yet, which is odd, since most people I interact with about beer (aside from my job) are on Tumblr, so here you go. I might post some others at some other point, but I’ll have to dig up some stock photos or drink another to take a picture. I’m sure the picture is not what you’re reading the post for, but it gives me another excuse to drink good beer. My reviews are rather short usually, but I’ll work on getting more descriptive.
Sprecher Black Bavarian (Schwarzbier/”Black Lager”)
-Poured from a 16oz bottle into a Tulip
-Poured/Reviewed on 1/7/12
Appearance- A rich black, opaque, with only about 1 cm of off-white head that dissipates rather quickly. Little lacing.
Smell- Fruity, caramel notes. Rich roasted nuts and possibly some cocoa.
Taste- Mild coffee and a bit nutty. A nice, rich, roasted quality exists, with a hint of bitterness on the back end.
Mouthfeel- Smooth, warming, bitter, and very complex. Refreshing amount of carbonation (appropriate for the style) is present.
Overall- Pretty good example of an American attempt at the Schwarzbier. Very drinkable and interesting. Warming complexity is excellent on a cold, winter night.
